This bottling marks the very first Amber Lane whisky to be matured full term in a single bourbon barrel – and what a treat it is.

Amber Lane distillery is renowned for their large, premium barrel program, longer maturation cycles, and the careful application of European distilling principles not seen before on our fine shores. Rod and Phil were a delight to work with and we couldn’t have asked for a tastier collaboration with two gentlemen who operate with joy and integrity.

For this release, we kept it super simple, targeting Amber Lane’s first fill bourbon barrels with Phil and Rod like kids in a candy shop. We settled on a robust, Heaven Hill first-fill, ex Bourbon barrel that we decided needed a few more months in the vessel to really sing. And the result….?

Not only did it sing, it bellowed out a soothing, Gregorian chant with accompanying tones of honey on toast, burnt butter, digestive biscuits, white chocolate, vanilla menthol, candy cane and crisp elegance. As a full term, first-fill, bourbon barrel, the spirit to wood synergy is bang on – the perfect storm in ex-bourbon maturation. As with all our releases, this Amber Lane beauty has been bottled straight from the cask at a cask strength of 61% ABV. Non-chill-filtered and with no added colour, this is as natural as cask strength whisky gets. Unadulterated, pure and distinctly Australian.

About Amber Lane Distillery

Amber Lane distillery has quickly become the bench mark of excellence within our vast, Australian whisky landscape, carrying the enviable record of winning a medal for every single whisky released, either at national or international whisky competitions. The distillery is located in Wyong on the central coast of NSW and their story is literally forged in the stars. Friends and fellow amateur astronomers Rod Berry and Phil Townsend were enjoying dark rural night skies at Coonabarabran NSW in 2017 when serendipity intervened. During a daytime excursion in the region, they stumbled upon a small whisky distillery, and a dream coalesced with a sense of destiny marking every step which has followed.

Rod has a deep appreciation for the art and science of whisky production. He’s visited the Cognac regions of France on numerous occasions bringing back valuable insights and applying it to Amber Lane whiskies. Phil is passionate about excellence in whisky production overseeing the daily operations at the distillery as head distiller while still working part time as a renowned acupuncturist.

Distillation is performed by ‘The Mary Rose’ – Amber Lane’s 3,600 litre Copper Still, designed to maximise copper-contact, thus producing more complex flavour chains; The very best large format barrels are sourced from premium producers of Spanish Pedro Ximenez, Oloroso Sherry, Cognac in France and Kentucky Bourbon. A multi-awarded distillery at the top of their game.
