Ardmore Highland Single Malt – Truth and Consequence’s First Release

Our Pioneer Expression

Introducing the very first Truth and Consequence expression from Ardmore Distillery. This Highland gem comes straight from the cask, in all its pure glory at 62.8% ABV. It’s a refill bourbon barrel delight that was matured for 12 uninterrupted years in the Highlands of Scotland. And the result? A brash and complex piece of liquid nirvana.

The Character

The distillery creates uniquely peated Highland whisky with distinctive character. Unlike Islay malts, Ardmore offers a more gentle, honeyed peat profile. And this particular Ardmore cask showcases the distillery’s signature style with added depth.

We make no apologies for the big and raw cask strength whiskies we bottle. For this expression, we used a simple 25-micron bag to catch any wood or char pieces from entering the bottle. From there, we leave it untouched.

With minimal filtration and no added color, all the beautiful long-chain fatty acids and esters remain in the whisky. This creates a velvet mouthfeel and natural drinking experience free from hard filtration. We curate our bottlings for the real whisky savant.

Limited Availability

The 225L refill bourbon barrel yielded only 125 bottles. This tells us either the Angels were working overtime pilfering their fill, or the distillery workers recognised a great tasting whisky barrel. We really enjoyed choosing this particular cask and hope you savor the whisky as much as we did selecting it.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Delicate honeysuckle mingles with rich vanilla bean, complemented by subtle notes of citrus and damp earth.

Palate: Fresh apple skins provide a crisp entry, evolving to creamy plum yoghurt notes. A touch of soft ash adds depth, showcasing Ardmore’s gentle peated influence.

Finish: Long and satisfying with sooty elements that linger, while golden-oak notes provide structure and warmth, for an elegant farewell.

Collector’s Note

As our inaugural release, this bottling represents the beginning of Truth and Consequence’s whisky odyssey. Each bottle comes numbered, making it a collector’s item for Ardmore enthusiasts and whisky collectors alike.

About Ardmore Distillery

Ardmore is a large, Victorian distillery that was founded in 1898 by William Teacher and is located on the fringes of the Scottish Highlands at the highest point of the Northern railway line, 600 feet above sea level near the village of Kennethmont. The distillery draws its water from the naturally rising springs that sit on the 1,500-foot tall Knockandy Hill.

Ardmore was predominantly reserved for Teachers blended whisky that sells over a million cases a year globally, however, popularity and a cult-like following has the distillery producing their very own peated, single malt whiskies. For around 50% of the production, the phenol specification of the malted barley is 12-14ppm and to a large extent, local peat is used. The range includes Legacy, a mix of 80% peated and 20% unpeated malt. The 12-year-old port finish has been recently discontinued. Tradition and Triple Wood are exclusive to travel retail and limited releases dating back a few years include a 20 and 30-year-old.

The distillery is equipped with a beautiful red-painted cask iron semi lauter mash tun with a copper lid. There are 16 Douglas fir washbacks – six of them with a capacity of 90,000 litres and ten of 45,000 litres. When the distillery moved from direct coal fire to steam, the staff spent almost a year manufacturing new steam coils with additional kinks, to reproduce the hot-spots in the stills once created by the direct fires that added to the flavour of the spirit. Under the new steam configuration, Ardmore decided to distil an unpeated version of their whisky under the brand name Ardlair, named after a Pictish stone that stands in a field in Ardlair, Kennethmont and dates back to the Middle Ages.

The distillery is currently working a seven-day week with 23 mashes, focusing on Ardmore from January to March and September to December while the rest of the year will be devoted to Ardlair.
